Madison’s comedy group Atlas Improv Co. will present the Endurance Improv Fest at their theater April 16-19, according to a release.

The event began Thursday night with a sketch comedy show, and will continue Friday with special shows at 8 and 10 p.m. The festival will conclude with an 11-hour improv marathon beginning 4 p.m. Saturday.

According to Atlas, all the events are free and take place at their custom-built theater at 609 E. Washington Avenue. The festival coincides with the company’s 11th anniversary.

“It stands for how long Atlas has been a part of the Madison community, the feat ofimprovising for 11 hours straight, and the enduring desire for good characters andstorytelling,” marketing manager Dan Deming-Henes said.

Atlas invited improvisational groups groups from around the Midwest to the festival to take part in sketch, short-form and long-form improv performances.

“We love improv and performing, whether we’re doing it or others are,” Atlas member Jess Schuknecht said. “We’re excited to have the chance to watch what our improv brethren can do.”

When the troupe isn’t performing, they also teach workshops, and were named Madison’s Best Comedy Group 2014 by Madison magazine.
