Assurances that these insurance companies build on what works
Continual focus on taking care of employees
Keeping a focus on employees amid change is part of the culture at Rural Mutual Insurance Company and M3 Insurance Solutions. Both businesses are repeat Best Places to Work companies, but neither shows signs of resting on past laurels.
Rural Mutual is the largest farm insurance writer in Wisconsin, which is more than one-third of its business. It also provides commercial, home, auto and life insurance options with 160 agents statewide. Peter Pelizza, executive vice president and CEO, says his company places an emphasis on addressing the needs of its employees and the community. As a result of feedback from its employees, for example, Rural instituted summer hours on Fridays to allow its staff more weekend time. “It would be a huge mistake if we weren’t always looking to change and keep growing,” says Pelizza.
At M3, the company moved from its west-side offices in September 2015 to its new 45,000-square-foot building on John Nolen Drive, with windows facing Lake Monona and more open space for its 150 Dane County employees. “We wanted to support the culture that we had but be able to do more for our employees,” says Zach Penshorn, vice president of human resources. He says the new design has “collaborative space” and includes a fitness room and showers on-site. “When you do the right things for your people, good things happen,” says Penshorn. “It’s who we are.”
