An armed man left empty-handed after getting into a brief struggle Monday night with a cashier during an attempted robbery, police said.

Officers were sent around 7:50 p.m. to the Walgreens at 606 S. Whitney Rd. for a report of an armed robbery, according to a release.

The robber entered the store, displayed a weapon and demanded money, police said.

After a brief struggle between the robber and the cashier, the robber fled the store without any money and headed toward the West Transfer Point on foot, according to the release.

A police K-9 track was conducted but the robber was not found. The investigation is ongoing.

The robber is described as a light-skinned African-American or Hispanic man, 17-18 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall with a slender build. He was wearing a red zip-up hooded sweatshirt, jeans and black shoes. He had a black handgun.
