Ardell E Lien

Ardell E Lien

Ardell Lien, age 83, of Blanchardville, Wisconsin, passed away while surrounded by loved ones at his home on Monday, November 27th, 2017.

Ardell was born May 1st, 1934 on the family farm to his Norwegian immigrant parents, Andrew and Elise Lien. The farm was the beautiful sanctuary for Ardell and his siblings, Inga (Hanson), Marie (Henning), Ole Lien, Olga (Ommodt), Ruth (Stillman), Gudrun (Kundert), Gunvar (Haesler), Alice Voegeli, and Clair Lien.

May 16, 1954, marked the beautiful day in which Ardell married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Larson, and together they spent most of their lives on the farm, nurturing the land and raising their six children. His family meant everything to him and his legacy will live in their hearts forevermore.

Ardell’s passion for life included antiquing and collecting Red Wing pottery, which led to many adventures with friends and in-laws, Mitzi and Jack Mason, Gordy and Grace Larson, John and Shirley Larson, and Sharon and Larry Blair.

Ardell also enjoyed the many adventures experienced throughout the years with special friend, Eldon Schraepfer. The two trailblazers traveled the countryside, searching for the next clandestine coffee shop gathering.

One cannot describe the Norwegian roots that have grown so deep in a soul as beautiful as Ardell’s. He was so grateful to have had the opportunity to visit relatives in Norway with family members in 1999. His collectibles and many beautiful stories will be cherished for generations to come.

Ardell embraced life through child-like eyes of wonder and JOY. He helped us see the simplistic beauty of a country car ride, sunrises and sunsets, the changes each season brings, the importance of staying connected with family and friends, the power of music, and a competitive card game of “Horse and Pepper”.

Always looking out for the needs of others, Ardell will be remembered as a gentle giant among men, and will be sadly missed by his surviving siblings, Inga, Gudrun (Delbert), Gunvar, Clair (JoAnn), nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. The absence of his beautiful presence will be felt especially by his beautiful bride, Barb, of 63 years and children: Catherine Boldger, Walworth; James Lien, Madison; Linda Thompson, Madison; Jon (Tami) Lien, Loveland (CO), and; Joe (Dana) Lien, Madison. Daughter Joan passed away April 1st, 1991 and son-in-law Bobby Thompson passed away April 19th, 2016. Ardell’s Norwegian spirit lives on in the lives of grandchildren, Eric, Christopher, and Natalie Boldger, Elise and Logan Lien, Brian (Kristy) Flanigan, Jennifer Flanigan, Jessica (Kevan) Smith, Ben Thompson, Taylor and McKayla Leivestad, and Andrew Lien. His final moments were spent enjoying his family on Thanksgiving Day and he especially took pleasure in watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lyric and Arianna Headly and Oliver Flanigan.

A celebration of our “Nordic King’s” life will be held Saturday, December 2nd, with a visitation from 10:30-1:00 and a 1:30 funeral service at Yellowstone Lutheran Church, 4472 Saints Rd, Blanchardville, WI 53516.

The catered luncheon gathering will take place at Blanchard Hall, 206 South Main Street in Blanchardville immediately following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Yellowstone Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Rene Hendrickson, 13385 Apple Grove Church Road, Argyle WI 53504.
