Apply now: Dane Arts to distribute $1 million grant among 400 struggling local artists
MADISON, Wis.– Madison consistently ranks among the best places in the country to live, and county surveys attribute that to three things: the lakes, the parks, and the cultural arts.
“The young people that work near Madison all want to live downtown,” explained Mark Fraire, director of Dane Arts. “Not to be next to their financial adviser or attorney, but to be in the hub of cultural activity.”
That’s why Fraire’s organization, the group behind programs like the Buy Local Night Market and the Mural Arts Project, is elated to have secured $1 million in funds, approved by the Dane County board. That money will be split among 400 independent working artists from all disciplines on a first-come, first-serve basis. All they have to do is live and work in Dane County, and apply.
