AmFam Championship week kicks off with Race for Research

MADISON, Wis. — Plenty of people dodged rainy weather Saturday to run for a good cause.

The annual “Race for Research” kicked off a week’s worth of events around the 2022 American Family Championship golf tournament on Saturday.

The race is held every year to benefit UW-Madison’s Carbone Cancer Center, while family, friends, and those who have survived their battle with cancer gather to participate in or watch the race.

Howard Bailey of the Carbone Center says it’s a special day each year.

“It’s really an opportunity for so many of us that are touched by cancer to come together and work together on how we can defeat cancer by research and patient care,” Bailey said.

The race is part of a week-long fundraising effort by American Family Insurance, which includes next week’s golf tournament featuring some of the game’s biggest legends.
