Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity suspended by UW-Madison for hazing violation
MADISON, Wis. — A University of Wisconsin-Madison fraternity is on suspension after being found Friday to have violated university rules against hazing of new members.
The Alpha Sigma Phi Kappa Chapter was suspended for pressuring members into hazing rituals where they wore Dora the Explorer backpacks and carried fruit around campus during the fall 2018 semester.
The Committee on Student Organizations found the chapter to be in violation of the university’s Student Organization Code of Conduct, suspending the fraternity from all university activities through March 24. The chapter will be barred from holding events during its suspension.
The chapter is also on general probation until Dec. 11. The organization has the right to appeal the decision.
