Alliant Energy releases statement on man killed in Columbia County crash
MADISON, Wis. — Alliant Energy released a statement to News 3 Now on Sunday afternoon after a man and his dog were killed in a Columbia County crash Friday.
The man who was killed in a two-vehicle crash was identified as 66-year-old Stephen J. Riggins, of rural Poynette.
Police said he died after an Alliant Energy utility truck failed to stop at a stop sign and hit Riggins’ vehicle.
Officials said Riggins and his dog, who was inside the vehicle with him, were both dead at the scene.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
In a statement, Alliant Energy said: “Around 9:20 a.m. on Friday, January 10, an Alliant Energy employee driving one of our utility trucks was involved in an accident with another vehicle. The accident occurred in the Lake Wisconsin area in the town of Dekorra and it resulted in a fatal injury to the driver of the other vehicle and the driver’s dog. We are keeping the individual’s family, loved ones and friends in our thoughts during this very difficult time. We’re cooperating with local officials in their full investigation of the accident. We take safety seriously at Alliant Energy, and the safety of our customers, employees and the public is our first priority. We will conduct our own internal safety investigation.”
