Allen, Herbig named to AP Preseason All-America second team

Herbig And Allen

MADISON, Wis. — Two Badger football stars already picked up honors this season, and they haven’t even played a game yet.

Running back Braelon Allen and linebacker Nick Herbig were named to the AP preseason All-America second team Monday. Allen is coming off of a strong 2021 season that saw him named a finalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award.

Allen and Herbig are joined on the second team by Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud. The All-American first team is headlined by 2021 Heisman trophy winner Bryce Young. The Big Ten is well-represented in the first team by Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson and Michigan kicker Jake Moody.

Allen ran his way into the Wisconsin record books last year, becoming only the fourth true freshman to tally 1,000 rushing yards in a season. He ended the year with 1,268 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. He also recorded eight catches for 39 yards.

Nick Herbig was a staple of the Badger defense last season. The Hawaii native ranked 4th in the Big Ten with 9 sacks and also recorded 14.5 tackles for loss. He tallied 64 total tackles and forced a pair of fumbles.
