8-year-old dies after single-vehicle crash on I-39/90 in southern Dane County
ALBION, Wis. — An eight-year-old boy died Wednesday after a single-vehicle crash along I-39/90 in southern Dane County.
The state Department of Transportation says the crash happened at 1:46 p.m. on the interstate about a mile north of Highway 51 near Stoughton. According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, a Honda minivan “blew a tire, lost control and rolled over several times.”
The eight-year-old was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries. A news release said six others in the vehicle also suffered injuries from the crash.
State Patrol said the driver was arrested for second-offense operating with impairment.
Traffic was rerouted for roughly two hours, with all northbound lanes on I-39 reopening at around 5 p.m.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Edgerton Fire and EMS, Janesville EMS and Deer-Grove EMS assisted at the scene. The Wisconsin State Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
