Alice K. Wittwer

Alice K. Wittwer, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tue. Feb. 7, 2017, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City.

She was born the youngest of 11 children born at home, on the prairie, in the Township of Prairie du Sac to the late Edward and Clara (Block) Guethlein. Shortly after birth, her family moved to Westpoint Township; where she attended the Rock of Gibraltar School. Later they moved to Sauk City, where she attended the Fairchild School until the 8th grade. Due to her large family, she never fulfilled her dream of attending high school. As a young woman, Alice worked on the family farm and then later at Sprecher’s Cafe and Rudy’s IGA in Sauk City. She was united in marriage to Warren T. Wittwer on July 11, 1947; he preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 2011. Along with raising 4 daughters, Alice took much pride in caring for her home, cooking & baking, gardening, and canning. She was also a past Girl Scout Leader. Alice enjoyed garage sales and soap operas, crosswords puzzles and word search, sewing and cross stitch projects. She is a member of the First United Church of Christ.

Survivors include 3 daughters; Donna (Richard) Kaufman; Barbara (Christopher) Utley, and Christine (Norbert) Hardtke; 8 grandchildren; Carri and Cristi; Eric and Laura; Jennifer and Nicole; Kimberly and Kevin. Her extended blended family of love includes grandchildren; Jennifer, Brian, and Eric and great grandchildren; Taylor, Morgan, Tanner, Danielle, Jordan, Jessica, Jacob, Jema, Holden, Dakota, Jacob, Benjamin, Paige, Mace, Jaina, Dominic, Adriana, and Leila; and a great-great grandson, Brooks; and 2 sisters in-law, Lorraine and Elaine Wittwer.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Diehlmann; 5 brothers, Raymond, William, Roy, Rex, and Lee Guethlein; and 4 sisters, Margaret Guethlein, Verna Hornung, Marie Tarpley and Sena Kolbrick; and half-brother, Valentine Block.

A funeral service will be held on Thur. Feb. 9, 2017 at 11:00 am at First United Church of Christ in Sauk City with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 am until time of service.
