Aleta Marie (Rowley) Connery

Aleta Marie (Rowley) Connery

CAMBRIDGE/MONONA-Aleta Marie (Rowley) Connery, age 66, of Cambridge, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Fort Atkinson Hospital. She was born on April 17, 1946, in Madison, the daughter of Jonas E. and Eleanor (Schlimgen) Rowley.

Aleta attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Grade School and graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1964. She then went to nursing school at MATC, where she received her L.P.N. Aleta worked for Central Colony (now known as Central Wisconsin) for ten years, working with young children. She then moved to Salem, Ore., where she worked at the Oregon State Mental Hospital. Aleta would always remind us how the movie, ” One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” was filmed at that facility. Aleta retired from the Oregon State Mental Hospital, and then worked for Williamette Lutheran Nursing Home. She then returned to Wisconsin, to be closer to her grandchildren, mother, and siblings, and also to be a private nurse for several families with disabled children. Aleta enjoyed walking her dogs, and taking care of her flowers and plants. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and reading. Aleta loved her very special neighbors in her retirement community.

She is survived by her son, Bradly D. (Michele); grandchildren, Kathleen Marie, Tim, Jack, and Matthew Connery; siblings, Penney Melvin, Mark Rowley, Royanne Rowley, and Chris (Suzanne) Rowley; her former husband, Timothy Connery; her best friend, Jason Graham; special friends, Mike and Debbie Dykstra; and her four-legged baby, Lizzie. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her dog, Abby.

A Celebration of Aleta’s Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Aleta was a free spirit that enjoyed life. Her family will honor her by scattering her ashes at the Pacific Coast, where she loved to visit.
