Alert days issued for possible freezing rain, snow mix this weekend
Alert Days have been added to the forecast for Saturday and Sunday for a storm that will move through the area bringing rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow.
The precipitation will begin late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Warm air will allow rain to fall in southern Wisconsin. However, the ground is very cold due to colder than normal weather this month. Rain may freeze on contact with cold pavement and tree branches.
Temperatures will warm up to the upper 30s Saturday afternoon and any mix will change to all rain. A mix of rain and snow will be possible again Saturday night and Sunday morning as colder air works in behind this storm.
Most of the precipitation that falls across southern Wisconsin will be in the form of rain. Right now, snow accumulation should be minimal. However, central Wisconsin may see several inches of new snow from this storm.
If you have travel plans this weekend, keep up with the forecast. Any change to the forecast track of this storm will impact types and amounts of precipitation for southern Wisconsin.
