Alert Day Tuesday & Wednesday: Heavy rain, severe storms possible
Alert days are in the forecast for today and Wednesday. The ground is saturated and additional heavy rain may lead to flooding in southern Wisconsin.
There is a constant feed of moisture from Tropical Storm Narda in the Gulf of California into Wisconsin. As a cold front slowly moves through Wisconsin, showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread by this afternoon. Moisture levels are high and the showers and storms may produce heavy rain, especially tonight into early Wednesday. Several inches of rain is expected by midday Wednesday.
In addition, there is a slight risk for severe storms this afternoon and evening. The main threats will be large hail and strong winds.
The rain should diminish by midday Wednesday, but the chance for rain returns Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Cooler temperatures will return to southern Wisconsin for the end of the week. High temperatures will be in the 50s with overnight lows in the lower 40s.
