Albert Herbert Fischer
MADISON-Albert Herbert Fischer, age 87, of Madison, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Oak Park Place. He was born on Oct. 14, 1924, in Leola, S.D., the son of Christian and Minnie Fischer.
He married Erline Rueb on July 1, 1945, in Joplin, Mo. Al served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during World War II. He worked at Oscar Mayer for 34 years. Following his retirement, he worked at Dane County Coliseum for 17 years. Al was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for more than 60 years, where he served on the church council for 50 years and as council president many times. He was also a life member of the VFW Post No. 7591.
Al is survived by his wife, Erline; children, Richard (Teresa), RosaLee (Dean) Thoreson, Randall (Ann), and Renee Fischer; five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a brother.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012, with the Rev. Pat Ziegler presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, Dean Clinic, and Oak Park Place for their loving care.
