Ahmed, Byrne get Big Ten honors
Athlete and Coach of the year for outdoor track
MADISON — Mohammed Ahmed and Mick Byrne are the Big Ten men’s outdoor track Athlete and Coach of the Year.
The Badgers won the 2014 Big Ten men’s outdoor track championship at Purdue last weekend. Earlier this season, Wisconsin won the Big Ten indoor championship.
Ahmed won the 5000 meter race and was second in the 10,000 meters at the outdoor meet as he helped the Badgers to their 19th men’s track team title in the last 14 years.
Byrne received the outdoor Coach of the Year honor for the first time after winning the same award for the indoor season.
Wisconsin’s Charlie Foss is the Badger’s recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship award while Lizzie Wendt won the women’s Sportsmanship Award.
