After ATV flip, man in fair condition
26-year-old flown to UW Hospital after trail accident Friday
CADIZ, Wis. — A Brodhead man is in fair condition Saturday after authorities said he was injured when his ATV flipped near the Town of Cadiz.
At 6:22 p.m. on Friday, emergency responders received a report of an ATV crash with injuries on the Tri County Trail near Dill Road.
The Green County sheriff said Darren Blakesley, 44, of Machesney Park, Ill., Jeffrey Mount, 50, of Loves Park, Ill., and 26-year-old Christopher L. Bennett were driving ATVs east on the Tri County Trail.
Blakesley and Mount stopped at a sign on the W9200 block and continued east, according to the report.
Upon reaching Highway MM, the pair said Bennett was not behind them. The two turned around and found his ATV flipped and Bennett lying in the middle of the trail.
The sheriff’s department said Bennett was going east on the Tri County Trail when he lost control of the ATV attempting to stop at the sign.
The ATV flipped, ejecting Bennett. During the crash, Bennett’s helmet flung off, the report said.
Bennett was injured and taken by Medflight to UW Hospital. A hospital representative said Bennett was in fair condition as of Saturday at noon.
The sheriff’s department said Bennett was cited for operating while intoxicated first offense and operating an ATV in a careless manner.
The Green County sheriff said alcohol and speed were likely factors in the crash and the incident remains under investigation.
The sheriff said the Department of Natural Resources warden, Browntown Fire Department, South Wayne Fire Department, Monroe EMS and MedFlight assisted the sheriff’s department in the incident.
