Accessible playground goes up at Brittingham Park
MADISON, Wis. — A new Madison playground aims to be accessible for children of all abilities, but some are worried the standards for inclusion may be outdated.
The new playground, built at Brittingham Park, cost the city $315,000, more than four times the cost of an average playground. It has a flat surface, a handicap-accessible ramp and a Braille board. The city adhered to standards from the Americans with Disabilities Act in construction, but some of the standards are considered outdated and not applicable for all.
The city is looking to open more parks like this over the next four years.
