Abortions drop in Wisconsin
State sees a 7 percent drop
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services found a more than seven percent drop in abortions performed compared to last year.
In 2011, 7,249 abortions were performed, compared to 7,825 in 2010, for a 7.3 percent difference — the second straight year abortions have gone down.
The rate of women between the ages of 15-44 who had an abortion in 2011 was 6.3 per 1,000, down from 6.8 per 1,000 in 2010.
That is well below the national rate of 16 per 1,000, according to the most recent data available from 2008.
