A historic and cheesy day
Madison created the World's Largest Cheeseboard
In queso you missed the news, Madison made headlines for creating the World’s Largest Cheeseboard on Aug. 1, 2018, on King Street. Nine images from the record-breaking event are pictured in this two-page spread. In attendance to make the moment official was Mike Marcotte (pictured bottom far left), an adjudicator for Guinness World Records, who was present earlier in the day for the official weighing of the exorbitant amount of Wisconsin cheese collected for the occasion, put on by the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin.
A 2,064-pound wheel of Henning’s Mammoth Cheddar (pictured middle far left) was the cheese de resistance on a custom 35-by-7-foot-wide cheeseboard, which held the record-breaking 4,437 pounds and 9.92 ounces of Wisconsin cheese. Wisconsin broke the previous record by more than 1,000 pounds.
The new title adds to a giant list of other titles for the Dairy State, which produces 48 percent of the specialty cheese in the U.S. and holds the title for 2017 U.S. Champion Cheese. “We wanted to showcase the amazing breadth of the award-winning cheeses in Wisconsin and we thought, ‘What better way to do that than to create the world’s largest cheeseboard?’ ” says Suzanne Fanning, Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin’s vice president of marketing communications. “Wisconsin’s licensed cheesemakers put the art in artisan, drawing from their rich European heritage, cheesemaking traditions and impressive innovations, and we’re thrilled to share their masterful creations with the world in a unique and fun way.
