A first, and prestigious visit from Italy’s Ambassador to US
Despite the influence of Italian immigrants here in Wisconsin, and especially here in Dane County, and a significant trade relationship, no Italian Ambassador to the United States had ever visited Wisconsin. Until this month. It went largely un-noticed, and that’s too bad because it’s important.
Ambassador Claudio Bisongiero not only included Wisconsin in his tour of Upper Midwest states, including the obligatory visit with the Governor and state officials, but he also had lunch at Porta Bella with members of Madison’s Italian Workman’s Club and local officials both authentically Italian like County Executive Joe Parisi, and honorary Italians for the day. No matter – it was an opportunity to celebrate long standing relationships and the potential for expanded exchange of culture, knowledge and products.
Wisconsin’s connections to Italy are strong and deep, the Madison-Mantova Sister-City relationship included. It was good to have the Italian Ambassador here and a nice tribute to Madison Italians like Frank Alfano and Tony Bruno for securing the visit.
