$8M in rare books, other items stolen from Pennsylvania library
Two men have been charged with stealing more than $8 million in items from a Pennsylvania library.
WPXI reports that Greg Piore and John Schulman face charges that include theft and conspiracy.
Piore worked as a manager at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and was sole archivist of the library’s Oliver Room, which houses rare books and items. Piore was fired last year after more than 25 years.
Schulman is co-owner of the Pittsburgh-area Caliban Book Shop, which specializes in rare books.
The two men began working together in the last 1990s, according to investigators. WPXI reports Schulman allegedly told police he made between $500 and $3,000 for items he stole and gave to Schulman to sell.
The Oliver Room closed more than a year ago when authorities discovered the thefts.
