An 8-year-old was treated after being struck by what officials suspect was debris from a shooting in Rock County early Saturday, officials said.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office said town of Beloit officers responded to a report of shots fired into a house on the 1900 block of Nelson Avenue at 5:30 a.m.

Officers said multiple firearm rounds were shot at the home and it appeared one round struck the neighboring Nelson Avenue home, according to the report. Several residents were in the house at the time of the shooting. An 8-year-old girl was treated at the scene by Beloit Township Fire Department. Police suspect she was struck by debris generated from the firearm rounds.

At 6:45 a.m., town of Beloit police requested the Rock County Sheriff’s Office take over the investigation, according to a news release. Detectives and crime scene specialists investigated and processed the scene at the two houses.
