There are several places in Madison hosting events to celebrate Fat Tuesday this week. The Ugly Apple Café, one of Madison’s breakfast food carts, is offering locally sourced café eats and treats — even in February. For Fat Tuesday, the Ugly Apple will make Mardi Gras Paczki: sweet, delectable, custard-filled donuts of Polish heritage. This year, a variety of donuts with different flavors will be offered, including raspberry, roasted pineapple, strawberry rhubarb bourbon, and vanilla or chocolate custard. Prices are $3 for an individual donut, $5 for two and $25 for an order of a dozen paczki. Preorders can be made online by Monday, and donuts can be picked up Tuesday at Christine’s Kitchen — there will be a few extra donuts for those who drop in, but they sell out fast! Preorder at email@example.com
Do southern drinks, jazz and food sound intriguing? If so, stop by Bierock to enjoy them all at the Fat Tuesday in Madison: Abita, Sazeracs & Jazz event. Since Abita Brewing is located just north of New Orleans, a keg of Wrought Iron IPA will be tapped in honor of Mardi Gras. A Sazerac cocktail will be on special, but with a Wisconsin twist: Dancing Goat Limousin rye whiskey, Pernod, Angostura bitters and sugar. Enjoy these drinks and the full Bierock menu with a soundtrack highlighting classic New Orleans jazz from legends like Dr. John and Kermit Ruffins. 3-10 p.m. Click here fore more information
Watch the preparation of your very own five-course meal inspired by the last day of the Carnival celebration at vomFASS’s delecTable. This week’s Fat Tuesday Culinary Dinner Theater will feature a menu of traditional southern flavors with some twists. Muffaletta bread salad, shrimp étouffée, blackened snapper, andouille sausage stuffed pork and bourbon banana bread pudding will be prepared before your eyes and for your palate, with additional drink pairings for a complete experience. 6-9 p.m. $59 for general seating. This week, The Robin Room turns 1 — or 4 if you disregard leap year dates. In honor of opening its doors one leap year ago, the beverage lounge is celebrating with a week of events, including an Apologue Spirits Seminar & Happy Hour this Wednesday. Representatives from Apologue Spirits will lead a tasting seminar of some of its products, and cocktails featuring the distillery’s Aronia Berry, Celery Root, Persimmon and Saffron spirits. Apologue is fairly new to Wisconsin, so this is a great way to get a taste of what it’s all about! 2-4 p.m. Click here fore more information
