70-year-old Madison woman robbed at gas station
MADISON, Wis. — A Madison woman was robbed at a gas station around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to officials.
A 70-year-old woman was preparing to pump gas at 5445 University Avenue, when she was approached by a man. The man asked the woman for help and was told that he would have to check with store employees for assistance, according to a release from the Madison Police Department.
The woman went into the store and passed the man a second time as she was leaving and he was entering. The man made a comment to the woman as she passed that made her feel uneasy, police said.
She returned to her car to pump gas and was keeping an eye out for the man. When she finished, she hastily returned to the car and was going to lock the doors, but before she could do so, the suspect opened opened the passenger door and took her wallet from her console, officials said.
The man fled in a blue car parked nearby. He is described as a black man, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a stocky build. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and was last seen driving away, according to police.
