6 Outdoor Wisconsin Events to Enjoy in Late Summer
Whether you're the one running or cheering on friends or family, there are plenty of fun runs/walks to check out in September.

Autumn is just around the corner, and late summer is a perfect time to head outside before the cold weather hits. Several events and activities in the area will get you outdoors and active during September—arguably one of the loveliest months in the state. Here’s a sample:

September 7: Ironman Wisconsin. Cheer on more than 2,000 athletes swimming, biking and running their way through Madison. Competition begins at 7 a.m. at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. ironman.com

September 11: Downtown Middleton Wine Walk. Each guest receives a wine glass and a wristband. Participating businesses will provide appetizers to complement the wine. Begins at 7447 University Ave., Middleton. 5 to 8 p.m. travelwisconsin.com

September 13: Madison Garden Marathon. The distances at this four-mile run/walk are staggered, with marathon starting at 8 a.m. Starts at Lakeland and Atwood avenues in Madison. childrensvoiceinc.org

September 20: Mississippi Mud Run. Head out to Prairie du Chien for four miles of terrain, including various obstacles. Registration begins at 7 a.m., race at 9 a.m., St. Feriole Island. pdcskatepark.org/mississippi-mud-run

September 26: Downtown Wisconsin Dells Fall Wine Walk. Enjoy an evening of wine, hors d’oeuvres and more. facebook.com/WisconsinDellsWineWalk

September 28: Henry Vilas Zoo Run Run. Various distances and runs/walks. Registration begins at 7 a.m., race at 9 a.m. vilaszoo.org
