Tuesday has a lot of pressure on it, being the final day not only of 2019 but of the 2010s. These events are here to help you celebrate the end of one decade and the beginning of another. Choose from parties, special dinners, shows and family-friendly activities to ensure 2019 gets the goodbye (or good riddance) it deserves.
Prix Fixe and Special Menus
Start the night off right with a dinner to remember at these restaurants, offering specials or prix fixe menus on New Year’s Eve.
According to the Michelin Guide, the word “omakase” roughly translates to “I’ll leave it up to you.” Leave it up to chefs Itaru Nagano and Jack Yip at RED, and trust that the nine-course feast they have selected and prepared is the right way to ring in the New Year, including delicacies like toro tartare, Tsukiji Market sashimi and salmon mi cuit, among others. If it’s just a pair you, Karben4 Brewing will offer a “Menu for Two” New Year’s Eve dinner. Choose an appetizer, two entrees and a dessert from the brewery’s special New Year’s Eve menu, also available for larger groups. Choose from halibut curry or 72-hour prime rib for your main course (with vegetarian options available upon request), and work your way through the meal to get to that house-made ice cream at the end. Have the last laugh of 2019 by reserving tickets at Comedy on State for New Year’s Eve with Ian Bagg. If Bagg’s appearances on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and several Tim Robbins films don’t sell you, Comedy on State will offer cocktail specials like the French 75 pictured above, along with champagne and party favors during the late show, so you can toast to 2020 with a chuckle. $20-$40. See a Grammy Award nominee at Red Zone by purchasing tickets to NYE with Afroman at the Annex. The rap artist, otherwise known as Joseph Foreman, began releasing music independently in the late 1990s, with his 2001 hit “Because I Got High” garnering popularity through the file-sharing platform Napster. Originally from Madison, the band has won several awards from local groups, including the Madison Area Music Association and Madison Magazine’s Best of Madison readers’ poll. Celebrate at High Noon Saloon’s A Funky New Year’s Eve Celebration with Mama Digdown’s Brass Band for a night that captures excitement and spirit. Joe Nosek and Oscar Wilson head Midwest-launched blues group The Cash Box Kings, who you can see at the Knuckledown Saloon during The Cash Box Kings – New Year’s Eve 2020. The group recently signed to Alligator Records, a Chicago-based independent blues record label. With an array of activities, including a LEGO robot workshop, a magician and a juggling and unicycle act, the whole family can have a blast at this annual event.
