Tuesday has a lot of pressure on it, being the final day not only of 2019 but of the 2010s. These events are here to help you celebrate the end of one decade and the beginning of another. Choose from parties, special dinners, shows and family-friendly activities to ensure 2019 gets the goodbye (or good riddance) it deserves.

Prix Fixe and Special Menus
Start the night off right with a dinner to remember at these restaurants, offering specials or prix fixe menus on New Year’s Eve.

According to the Michelin Guide, the word “omakase” roughly translates to “I’ll leave it up to you.” Leave it up to chefs Itaru Nagano and Jack Yip at RED, and trust that the nine-course feast they have selected and prepared is the right way to ring in the New Year, including delicacies like toro tartare, Tsukiji Market sashimi and salmon mi cuit, among others. A lot has happened for the Madison dining destination L’Etoile in the last decade, including Chef Tory Miller’s win over Bobby Flay, multiple James Beard nominations and a 40th anniversary. Guests pick from four options for each course, with choices like the dry-aged beef rib-eye, pictured above, served alla Rossini. Salvatore’s Tomato Pies will offer a four-course dinner, supper club-inspired and served with a complimentary Old-Fashioned or a glass of sparkling wine. If it’s just a pair you, Karben4 Brewing will offer a “Menu for Two” New Year’s Eve dinner. Choose an appetizer, two entrees and a dessert from the brewery’s special New Year’s Eve menu, also available for larger groups. For a three-course dinner complete with a beer pairing, reserve a spot at Union Corners Brewery. Choose from halibut curry or 72-hour prime rib for your main course (with vegetarian options available upon request), and work your way through the meal to get to that house-made ice cream at the end. Madison venues offer lots of live shows featuring local and national performers on New Year’s Eve. Kick back and let these acts take center stage to greet the new year.

Have the last laugh of 2019 by reserving tickets at Comedy on State for New Year’s Eve with Ian Bagg. If Bagg’s appearances on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and several Tim Robbins films don’t sell you, Comedy on State will offer cocktail specials like the French 75 pictured above, along with champagne and party favors during the late show, so you can toast to 2020 with a chuckle. $20-$40. For a high energy show, get tickets to see Rod Tuffcurls & The Bench Press at The Sylvee on New Year’s Eve. The Midwest-based group will play cover jams all night, and Madison’s Don’t Mess with Cupid will bring the funk/soul tunes. See a Grammy Award nominee at Red Zone by purchasing tickets to NYE with Afroman at the Annex. The rap artist, otherwise known as Joseph Foreman, began releasing music independently in the late 1990s, with his 2001 hit “Because I Got High” garnering popularity through the file-sharing platform Napster. Ring in the new year with rhythm and soul and head to Majestic Madison for New Year’s Eve with The People Brothers Band. Originally from Madison, the band has won several awards from local groups, including the Madison Area Music Association and Madison Magazine’s Best of Madison readers’ poll. Travel back in time, or just over to East Washington Avenue, for a New Year’s Party with Rock Icons Tribute Show at the Brink Lounge. Tribute bands Petty 3 and Piano Man will perform hits from legends Tom Petty and Billy Joel, and guests can partake in a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Celebrate at High Noon Saloon’s A Funky New Year’s Eve Celebration with Mama Digdown’s Brass Band for a night that captures excitement and spirit. The Madison-based Handphibians will also perform, bringing a taste of Brazil to the stage to complement Mama Digdown’s Brass Band’s New Orleans-style brass band. Joe Nosek and Oscar Wilson head Midwest-launched blues group The Cash Box Kings, who you can see at the Knuckledown Saloon during The Cash Box Kings – New Year’s Eve 2020. The group recently signed to Alligator Records, a Chicago-based independent blues record label. We’ve waited patiently for the arrival of the 2020s and can now unabashedly throw as many Gatbsy-themed affairs as desired. Check out these themed parties, many of which are 1920s-inspired, for fun twists on New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Say hello to the ’20s by going back in time to them. Celebrate at Madison’s Roaring Into the ’20s party to dance, drink and dine your way into the new decade. Dress to impress and enjoy the evening, hosted by DJ Brook and filled with 1920s glamour and style. Open dinner will begin at 5 p.m., and private VIP booths are available to reserve. $20 cover charge. 9 p.m.-3:30 a.m.

For more 1920s-themed frivolity, go to Bierock for New Year’s Eve: A Great Gatsby Celebration. Those who are used to a pre-midnight bedtime routine probably won’t be awake to play ping pong at 6 a.m. Or if you have children, you can opt for one of these early, family-friendly events instead.

Presented by UnityPoint Health – Meriter, Madison Family Eve celebrates 29 years at the Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center this New Year’s Eve. With an array of activities, including a LEGO robot workshop, a magician and a juggling and unicycle act, the whole family can have a blast at this annual event. Madison Children’s Museum will host a New Year’s Eve (Afternoon) Dance Party. Have an active afternoon with Family New Year’s Eve Event at Keva Sports Center in Middleton. Between balloon art, NERF games, live music, cookie decorating and a plethora of activities offered by the sports center, this holiday event has something for everyone.
