5-year-old raises funds to help feed children and families
MIDDLETON, Wis. — Jonathan Gaerner is only 5 years old, but he knows that other kids his age in the community don’t have enough to eat and he wants to change that.
A few months ago, instead of asking for presents for his birthday, he asked for food.
“I asked for Cheerio boxes for the MOM food pantry for my birthday for all the hungry people. I was really surprised when I woke up and went downstairs and saw a huge pile of Cheerio boxes,” Jonathan said.
Jonathan toured the MOM food pantry, and as he passed the shelf with cereal boxes he saw people putting them in their carts.
“I liked giving food to MOM and imagining kids eating cereal for breakfast. It made me happy,” Jonathan said.
Jonathan is now a spokesman for MOM’s Giving Tuesday campaign. Jonathan will appear on videos on MOM’s Facebook page , explaining how he helped others and encouraging to give. The event will take place November 27 and 28.
