Officials are looking for the driver who fled a hit-and-run crash on Highway 12/18 east of the Interstate that injured five people early Sunday morning, according to a release.

Madison police officers were sent to reports of a significant crash at the intersection of Highway 12/18 and Millpond Road around 5:20 a.m., officials said.

Officers said a 2008 Chevrolet SUV rolled on its side after being hit by a 1999 Ford Mustang.

Eastbound Highway 12/18 was closed for a short period of time, according to the release.

Investigators said the SUV was pulling out from Millpond Road to go west on Highway 12/18 when it crashed into the Mustang, which was going east at highway speeds.

Five people, all from the SUV and ranging in age from 44 to 60 years old, were taken to nearby hospitals for what officials believe are non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

Officials said the occupants of the Ford Mustang fled the vehicle, and are still being sought by police for hit-and-run charges.

Alcohol may be a factor in the crash, but police are still looking for anyone who may have information about incident.
