5-7 people hit by lightning outside Packers vs. Bucs game
No one directly hit by lightning, officials say
TAMPA, Fla. — WTSP, the CBS affiliate in Tampa, is reporting that between five and seven people were struck by lightning at the Raymond James Stadium as the Bucs versus Packers game ended.
Paramedics treated seven people after the incident happened in parking lot 14 on the north side of the stadium, WTSP reported.
All of the victims were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, and an additional four or five people reported that they would go to the hospital on their own, according to the report from WTSP.
Tampa Fire Rescue Spokesman Jason Penny told WTSP it doesn’t appear that anyone was directly hit by the lightning Sunday afternoon. He said the lightning did kick up rocks and knock a few people down shortly after 4 p.m.
There were no other injuries reported.
WTSP reported the ages of the patients range from early 20s to a man in his 70s.
