486 animals find homes during free adoption event
5 organizations across area participated in Maddie's Pet Adoption Days over weekend
MADISON, Wis. — Thanks to a nationwide event, 486 animals were adopted from five organizations across the area over the weekend, according to a release.
The Dane County Humane Society, Dane County Friends of Ferals, Angels Wish, Friends of Noah and the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin participated in Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days, officials said. The five organizations will earn up to $2,000 per adoption from Maddie’s Fund to continue to support future animal.
The Dane County area was one of 14 communities nationwide to participate in the two-day free adoption event, according to the release.
“We were amazing at the turnout – seeing the happy faces, the purrs and wagging tails walk out the door together made the weekend so incredibly rewarding,” DCHS spokeswoman Gayle Viney said in the release.
The goal of the event is to give all healthy, senior and treatable shelter dogs and cats a second change, officials said.
“Dane County Humane Society is proud to have been the lead agency for our community and we are extremely excited that all five organizations adopted out so many great animals,” Viney said.
DCHS had 189 animals adopted; Dane County Friends of Ferals had 145 animals adopted; the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin had 111 animals adopted; Angel’s Wish had 33 animals adopted; and Friend’s of Noah had eight animals adopted.
