4-year-old struck by truck; Driver dead
MOUNT HOREB, Wis. — A child was struck during a traffic collision in Mount Horeb Thursday morning.
Mount Horeb police said a truck pulling a trailer traveling east on Main Street was swerving and struck a car traveling west in the 400 block of Main Street at about 7:20 a.m.
A child on side of the road waiting for a school bus was struck and taken to a Madison hospital. The boy’s grandmother told News 3 he’s 4-years-old and has a leg fracture. She said he’s expected to be fine.
“The witnesses say that the vehicle was kind of deviating a little bit in the lane of traffic,” Mount Horeb police Lt. Patrick Piper said. “It appears at this point there may have been some type of significant medical event for that driver.”
Police said the truck ended up in a front yard. The 66-year-old Mount Horeb area man died, according to police. There’s no word on the cause of death.
The driver of the car that was hit is believed to be OK, officials said.
The area of Main Street between Blue Mounds Street to the co-op was expected closed for several hours.29695488
