Madison nuns injured in T-bone crash on far east side
MADISON, Wis. — Three nuns were hospitalized Wednesday morning following a two-vehicle crash on Madison’s east side.
The crash happened at the intersection of Cottage Grove Road and North Star Drive around 7:45 a.m., according to a release by the Madison Police Department.
The pastor at St. Bernard Catholic Church said three Schoenstatt sisters were headed to morning mass when a driver ran a red light and T-boned their vehicle as it was turning onto Cottage Grove Road. This is near Metro Market and the Great Dane Pub and Brewing Company’s eastside location.
Two people have serious or life-threatening injuries, the release said. One of the sisters is in serious condition and undergoing surgery for internal bleeding, while the other two will likely need surgery as well to fix broken bones.
Police said the driver who ran the red light made initial comments about checking his phone. The investigation remains open at this time.
