4 escape from Madison boat fire
Engine trouble led to fire on Lake Mendota
MADISON, Wis. — Three men and a woman were forced to jump from their boat on Lake Mendota Friday morning after a fire broke out near Lake Mendota Park.
According to Madison Fire Department, firefighters were sent to the fire about 9:45 a.m. after the boat caught fire about 300 yards off shore from Captain Bill’s restaurant in Middleton.
By the time firefighters arrived, the boat was fully engulfed in flames, according to the fire department.
Those on the boat reported engine trouble before the fire broke out, and noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. They tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher on the boat, but were unsuccessful and abandoned the boat.
All four were able to get out of the boat without injury and fire crews responded.
