38-year-old ejected in rollover, killed

19-year-old hunter injured falling from tree stand, sheriff says

A 38-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle rollover in Columbia County Thursday, officials said.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report at 12:33 a.m. of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 16 east of Schultz Road in the town of Lewiston. A man was outside of the vehicle lying on the ground near the roadway.

Citizens who stopped at the scene started CPR on Cory R. Bock of Portage before law enforcement arrived, according to the report. One of the citizens was a registered nurse.

A 1999 Chevrolet SUV was westbound on Highway 16 when it entered the north ditch rolling two or three times, ejecting Bock, according to the report. Bock was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the crash. Officials said weather and road conditions were not a factor in the accident.

Toxicology tests are pending.
