31-year-old charged with 3 counts of sex with teen in Janesville
JANESVILLE, Wis. — A 31-year-old man is charged with having sex with a teenage girl this week after a Janesville hotel employee reported suspicious activity, police said.
The Janesville Police Department said officers responded around 9 p.m. Monday to a report of a man staying at the Ramada Inn on Milton Avenue with what appeared to be a teenage girl.
“It’s not unusual, I guess, that an adult could be with a child on vacation or through work or whatever, but the person that called it in remembered that they had seen this pair more than once,” Lt. Terry Sheridan, with the Janesville Police Department, said. “Based on what they were seeing, interactions and stuff, they thought it seemed kind of suspicious.”
According to the report, officers spoke to Bryan S. Kind, of Gladwin, Michigan, at the hotel. The 16-year-old girl wasn’t at the hotel at that time, but investigators later found her at her home and interviewed her.
Police said Kind had been communicating with the teen on the internet for the last year, using various apps and internet messaging sites. Kind had traveled to the Rock County area and stayed in various hotels on at least three different occasions to meet with the girl. During some of the encounters, Kind had sexual contact with the girl.
Kind was arrested and held at the Rock County Jail on charges including three counts of sex with child 16 or older, child enticement via exposing sex organs and three counts of possession of child pornography after police said they found images in Kind’s hotel room.
Janesville police said the incident is still under investigation, and officers are working closely with police in Michigan and other agencies in Rock County to make sure there are no other cases involving Kind. Police said they don’t think there are any other victims.
