After two decades of neglect and decay, the Garver Feed Mill is getting ready to reopen as a hub for local businesses that reflects the new vibe of the city’s east side.

1. Ian’s Pizza will be the second of 11 tenants, and the first retail business, to open at the newly-renovated mill Wednesday night. This is Madison’s third Ian’s, and its most innovative yet, serving not only pizza by the slice and salads, but ice cream thanks to the area’s first Calliope Ice Cream shop. The new location means east-siders can now get their Ian’s delivered. Ian’s will open at 11 a.m. July 24.

2. The project is more than 20 years in the making. Longtime Madison residents will remember just how much the area’s transformed throughout the past 20 years. Ever since Garver Feed & Supply closed in 1997, after more than 60 years in business, there’s been a fire, threats to tear the historic site down, and financial problems. Now, the renovated site will be able to accommodate more than 800 guests. You can learn about the mill’s history here.

3. A wide-range of businesses will open at the site this fall. Garver’s tenants include an event center, coffee roaster, florist, photography studio, spa, yoga studio, vegan cafe, and a distributor of sustainably-caught salmon. The businesses will be located on Madison’s east side behind Olbrich Botanical Gardens. A grand opening celebration is planned for the fall.
