26-year-old dies in 45-foot rock fall in Adams County

Woman injured coming out of moving vehicle on I-90, state patrol says

A 26-year-old man died after a fall from a rock in Adams County over the weekend, officials said.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday that deputies responded to a report of a man who had fallen off Owens Rock in the town of Leola at 8:42 p.m. Saturday.

According to the release, Kevin Olson of Poynette was on the south side of Owens Rock when he jumped down to a lower level of the rock and fell about 45 feet to the ground.

Lifesaving measures were attempted, but Olson was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, according to the sheriff’s office.

Owens Rock is on County Road W, about .65 miles south of County Road D.

The sheriff’s office said it was not releasing further information on Wednesday.
