2-year-old found in abandoned house turned over to child services
MILWAUKEE — A 2-year-old boy has been turned over to child protection services after Milwaukee police found him living with his mother in an abandoned house that lacked plumbing, heat or electricity.
A neighbor alerted police to the mother and toddler living in the boarded-up house. Officers say they found the boy wearing three jackets. The only food in the house was a bag of chips.
Officer Vincenzo Paolo took the child to his warm squad car, WITI-TV reported. Another officer brought some chicken nuggets and fries. Paolo says the boy was hungry and “scarfed it down.”
Paolo, who has adopted five foster children, says it’s unfortunate, but officers see this type of situation too often. Police say the boy’s mother has also been referred to social services.
