A traffic incident closed all lanes of Highway 59 between Palmyra and Whitewater in Jefferson County Saturday morning, according to a Wisconsin Department of Transportation alert.

The crash happened around 6:40 a.m. on Highway 59 at Piper Road, officials said. All lanes of traffic were closed between Piper Road and Kincaid Lane until about 11:30 a.m.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries, and due to the extent of the injuries Flight for Life was called to transport two people, according to a release.

An alternate route using County Road D and Highway 106 was recommended to drivers during the closure.

Officials did not release any information on the circumstances surrounding the crash. The accident is still under investigation.
