2 teens killed in SUV crash with semi in western Wis.

17-year-old driver was critically injured

Two teenage boys were killed when a sport utility vehicle hit a stopped semi-trailer truck from behind on Interstate 94 in western Wisconsin.

Authorities said the crash happened east of Hudson at about 1:20 p.m.

The Wisconsin State Patrol said the semi was heading east when it came to a stop in a construction zone and was struck from behind by the SUV.

The Star Tribune reported that four teenage boys from New Richmond were in the SUV. Two passengers — a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old — were killed. The 17-year-old driver was critically injured. Another 17-year-old passenger had minor injuries.

The truck driver was not hurt.

Eastbound traffic was detoured off of the interstate and around the scene for about two hours.
