2 people shot, dog killed in Oregon apartment

OREGON, Wis. — Two people were shot and a dog was killed during an incident in an apartment building Monday morning, police in Oregon said.

Police Chief Jennifer Pagenkopf said officers were called to the apartment building at 555 South Perry Parkway at about 7:49 a.m. when a woman reported being shot.

As officers and Dane County deputies approached the building, they heard more gunshots, Pagenkopf said.

Once they were inside the apartment, they found a man and a woman inside with gunshot wounds. Police said they were able to take the handgun they believe to be involved without incident.

They also found a dog dead inside the apartment.

Both people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, Pagenkopf said. The two people are believed to be in a relationship.

“Everything is safe, and we’re in the process of now investigating this incident,” Pagenkopf said. “This isn’t an everyday thing in this community.”

Pagenkopf said police would remain on the scene for much of the day while they investigate. Police were not able to provide any more information but will provide updates as the investigation continues.

Area residents sid the events of this morning and the current police presence has been unsettling.

“I’ve never even heard a loud noise in the neighborhood,” Oregon resident Jack Burke said. “I’m bamboozled by this.”

Police said the area is now secure and there is no danger to the public.
