Two new animals are coming to Henry Vilas Zoo next year.

A release from the zoo said the identity of the animals will be announced next week ahead of Giving Tuesday. A Friends of the Henry Vilas Zoo donor made a $10,000 matching gift that will double contributions from the community on Giving Tuesday up to that amount.

Funds raised Tuesday will support bringing the new animals to the zoo and to support them in their new home.

“We look forward to announcing the species of the Henry Vilas Zoo’s new animals,” said Ronda Schwetz, the zoo’s director. “Each of these animals will be an outstanding addition to the zoo.”

Last year, the Friends of the Zoo raised more than $12,000, which was used to obtain a pair of red pandas, two Somali wild asses and the grizzly bear sisters who now make Arctic Passage their home.

The Giving Tuesday goal is to raise $10,000 to support the arrival of the two new animals at the zoo.
