2 Iowa officers killed in apparent ambush attacks

Two Iowa police officers have been shot and killed in separate apparent ambush attacks, Des Moines police said Wednesday.

Des Moines police have launched a manhunt for the killer or killers, according to a police spokesperson.

The Associated Press reports that an officer from the suburb of Urbandale was shot and killed while sitting in his patrol car at about 1 a.m. Wednesday

The second officer came to assist and was found by fellow officers about 20 minutes later in his vehicle about two miles away suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek said it did not appear there was any interaction between the officers and the shooter or shooters. The attacks were described as ambush-style. He added that the identities of both officers will be released later.

The Des Moines Police Department is developing suspect information.
