2 injured in single-vehicle OWI crash, officials say
TOWN OF MONROE, Wis. — Two Monroe men were injured in a single-vehicle OWI crash early Sunday morning, Green County officials said.
Emergency crews responded around 3 a.m. to the N4200 block of Benkert Road in the town of Monroe for reports of a single-vehicle crash with injuries, according to a release.
Mitchell W. Riese, 23, of Monroe, was driving west when he missed a curve in the road, investigators said. Riese’s vehicle left the road and hit a tree. Riese was wearing a seat belt and was injured in the crash. He was taken to the Monroe Clinic Emergency Room.
A passenger in the vehicle, 23-year-old Benjamin T. Murray, of Monroe, was wearing his seat belt, and had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to the release. Murray was injured and taken to Monroe Clinic Emergency Room, and eventually taken by Med Flight to UW Hospital.
Riese faces a tentative charge of first-offense operating while under the influence. He was also cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle and unsafe lane deviation.
