2 hospitalized in car v. buggy crash
Horse injured, euthanized at the scene
DECATUR TOWNSHIP, Wis. — A car crashed into a horse-drawn buggy in Green County Sunday morning, sending two victims to University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said a car driven by Nicholas J. Roth, 32, of Albany was northbound on County Road E when his car struck a buggy driven by Lester E. Schmucker, 43, of Brodhead north of Borchardt Road at 8:12 a.m.
The buggy overturned when it was rear-ended.
Schmucker, and his wife, Katie M. Schmucker, 42, were taken to UW Hospital. Three other passengers in the buggy sustained minor injuries.
The horse sustained serious injuries and had to be euthanized at the scene, according to sheriff’s officials.
Roth was arrested on a warrant for failure to pay a fine for a third-offense operating while intoxicated charge as well as on suspicion of operating a vehicle while revoked and inattentive driving.
