2 Chicago men charged with robbing two Madison businesses

MADISON, Wis. — Two Chicago men were charged Wednesday in connection with two Madison armed robberies.

A new indictment alleges that 24-year-old Justin Harris and 33-year-old Robert O’Neal robbed the Northside Liquor Store on North Sherman Avenue and the Citgo gas station on Northport Drive on Jan. 25. According to a news release, the men used a firearm during both robberies.

If the men are convicted, they both face a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison for each robbery charge and a mandatory minimum of seven years in prison on each charge of showing a firearm during a violent crime.

Federal law requires any penalties imposed for the use of a firearm during a violent crime be served consecutive to any other sentences.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the Madison and Oshkosh police departments.
