19-year-old dies following Highway 51 crash
Two vehicles involved in crash
TOWN OF DUNN, Wis. — A Stoughton man who was seriously injured in a crash Tuesday morning has died.
Charles T. Stabler, 19, died at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison as a result of injuries he sustained in the two-vehicle crash on Highway 51 in the town of Dunn, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office said.
Just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dane County sheriff’s deputies, McFarland police and Stoughton Fire and EMS responded to the crash.
Stabler was traveling southbound on Highway 51 in his Volkswagen Jetta. Stabler failed to yield to northbound traffic while turning left onto Halvorson Road and struck an oncoming GMC Sierra pickup truck, sheriff’s officials said.
Stabler was ejected from his vehicle and transported by Med Flight to UW Hospital with serious injuries. Deputies believe he was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
The pickup driver, a 48-year-old Stoughton woman, suffered minor injuries. She was transported to a local hospital by Stoughton EMS.
