15-year-old boys arrested for sexual assault at Madison school, police say
MADISON, Wis. — Two 15-year-old boys are facing charges in connection with a sexual assault at a Madison high school this week, police said.
Madison police said the school resource officer at East High School was notified Thursday about a sexual assault that took place inside the school Wednesday afternoon.
A 15-year-old student told the officer she was sexually assaulted by two students inside a bathroom sometime around 4 p.m.
In a letter sent to East High School families Friday morning, Prinicipal Mike Hernandez said the school is “fully supporting the victim and the victim’s family through this process.” He said the school is working with police in the investigation, and no adults were involved.
“There is no place in the Purgolder community for sexual violence. We will not tolerate it,” Hernandez wrote.
Police said one boy was arrested Thursday night on a tentative charge of second-degree sexual assault of a child. The second boy was taken into custody by East’s school officer Friday morning. He is also facing a tentative charge of second-degree sexual assault of a child.
Hernandez said the school will take “the necessary disciplinary actions” with the students involved once the investigation concludes.
