A fire at an apartment complex in Beaver Dam has sent more than a half-dozen people to the hospital.

Beaver Dam Fire Department responded to a fire in the 100 block of Lakecrest Drive around midnight Tuesday at a 24-unit apartment building.

When police arrived they saw several people hanging out of windows on the second floor. Firefighters were able to make several rescues. Once the fire crew made all the rescues, firefighters worked to put out the fire.

Fifteen people were hurt during the fire and seven people were taken to the hospital. One firefighter was bitten by a dog he was rescuing.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Beaver Dam Police and Fire Department. There is no damage estimate at this time. The building is unlivable and 24 families were displaced. The Red Cross is helping the families that were affected.
